Plotline

When he is buried in a tomb that looks like stage left of The Guild stage

Then when Carena is dying, she calls out instinctively, "father!" As she does in the beginning of the book (writing it shortly) he takes the form of her biological father. He explains things about her life and how sorry he was that he couldn't be with her growing up.

She looks down, then she looks at him and smiles. She says “My life, my story. It's only possible because of my father. I will love you always.” Then turns on her side and says “Roshi.”

Hidden message that she never needed him to be anyone other than himself to be her father.

During his last stand, Carena joins him and when he is downed, he expels the truth about her origins and that he was the orator that failed the world.

Background

The Grand Preceptor of Oda. He is a noble lord, law maker and officiates Oda’s government under the emperor. He is father to Carena . These two are the only ones that bear the name Kuroku which impressive due to how much weight this name carries. The name Kuroku is said to be world famous.

Roshi is without a special ability but that did not deter him from making a name for himself. He started as a commoner in Oda and in his old age has found himself at the top of the nobles of Oda. He has risen to the highest accolades that a non-royal is able to.

Roshi has an impressive school of Bushido and has taught remarkable students that even include even Lord Satoshi. Roshi is the silent storm that leads with diplomacy at every possible moment, yet has the capability of overwhelming virtually any opponent.

He is the most trusted noble of the emperor, and was ennobled by his merit and renown, alone.

He was once called the Ghost of Kuroku because his origins are clouded in mystery and confusion. It appears as if he has always existed and yet no one can place their finger on where he was born. In addition, no one has ever walked away from the battlefield in combat with him, so he has become a sort of legend.
